Title : Fatty Acid Profile of Beilschmiedia mannii (Lauraceae) Seeds Oil
Authors Amenan Marguerite Kouame, Drogba Alexis Sahore, Abouattier Levry Joachim, Nguessan Gorges Amani
Abstract: The seed from the fruit of the Beilschmiedia mannii (Lauraceae) tree provides edible oil. To help popularize this seed, which is a traditional vegetable, a study of its food potential is necessary. In this work, the profile oil fatty acid extracted from the seeds was determined. The results obtained showed that this oil is rich in linoleic acid (40.64%); Alpha linolenic acid (31, 16%); Palmitic acid (15.51%); Stearic acid (6.10%) and oleic acid (2.95%).

Title : Quantitative structure activity relationship studies on some N-benzylacetamide and 3-(phenylamino)propanamide derivatives with anticonvulsant properties
Authors Adedirin Oluwaseye, Adamu Uzairu, Shallangwa Gideon Adamu, Abechi Stephen Eyije
Abstract: The activity of a number of N-benzylacetamide and 3-(phenylamino)propanamide analogues with anticonvulsant properties was described using the quantitative structure activity relationship model by applying it to 80 compounds. The molecular descriptors of the compounds were obtained by quantum chemical calculations combined with molecular modeling calculations. The resulting model has correlation coefficient R of 0.92 meaning it explains up to 92% of the variance in the activity of the compounds that made up the data set. The model was successfully validated internally by leave one out cross validation and y-scrambling test. External validation was done using the Golbraikh and Tropsha criteria and predicted square correlation coefficient for the test set R2pred. Statistical analysis shows that the anticonvulsant activity of the studied compounds depends mainly on the Kier2, RDF50s, AATS4i and VE2_D descriptors.

Title : The Contribution of Genetic Resistance of Potato Varieties on Virus
Authors Ioan Gontariu
Abstract: World production of potato is second to cereals. One of the most efficient key factors of increasing potato production is the quality of seed potato as planting material. In order to control the varieties production, it is necessary the use of a high biological value material, with no viral diseases. The present study revealed that the ELISA method is applicable for the determination of the viral infection degree with effect on the yield of potato seeding material from superior biological categories. Also, the elimination of virus-infected plants using the ELISA method has resulted in a higher yield of potato seeding material from superior biological categories (SE and E basis).

Title : Preparation of the Charter of Hemerobia, the City the Campina Grande Do Sul (Parana/Brasil) – Environmental Planning Support
Authors Garcia Claudia Moreira, Moura Luiz Antonio De
Abstract: This study aimed to build the Charter of Hemerobia the municipality of Campina Grande do Sul as environmental planning support. Campina Grande do Sul small city, is inserted with its large territory in protected areas, which limits its urban growth. Since urban concentration is restricted to only one area (south) and expansion along the BR 116. For making this letter used the municipality's land use map, satellite images (INPE-National Institute for Space Research), which were worked in ArcGIS 10.2, scale 1: 250,000. To create the Hemerobia chart we used the concept of Landscape Units and hemeoróbica classification model proposed by Favero et al (2004). In addition to satellite images information, an attempt was made through field research, photographing the places we identify with classified Landscape Units through the land use map, These units have been renamed within the concept of Hemerobia proposed by Favero et al (2004) then designated areas A, C, D and E . To relate the letter with the issue of environmental planning, it was found that the municipality will face urbanization problems due to high population density in the south of the city, and along the BR 116. In this way, these areas should have a follow-up within the urban and environmental planning. The protected areas are also at risk, since areas were identified mineral exploration (granite). The area flooded by the dam Capivari-Cachoeira, is also another area to be monitored to avoid large urban development, since this a wealth of space that should be preserved. The Letter of Hemerobia shows up as a technical resource to the environmental planning.

Title : Relative Influence of Edaphic-Site Characteristics on Vegetative Parameters along a Toposequence in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract: The study on the relative influence of edaphic factors and site characteristics on vegetative parameters, along a toposequence in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria was carried out. The multiple linear regression models was employed to examine the relative effect of edaphic factors and site characteristics on vegetative parameters. The tree height (R) explains 76.9% variation, seventeen independent variables (Adjusted R-square) explain 49.5% and dependent variables (R-square) explain 59.1% of the total variation from the upper to the bottom slopes. Tree density (R) explains 63.9% variation, seventeen independent variables (Adjusted R-square) explain 26.8% and dependent variables (R-square) explain 40.8% of the total variation from the upper to the bottom slopes. Species richness (R) explains 74.2% variation, seventeen independent variables (Adjusted R-square) explain 44.5% and dependent variables (R-square) explain 55.1% of the total variation from the upper to the bottom slopes. The soil texture varies from coarse, fine, silt and clay soil. Coarse sand was the dominant soil in the upper, middle and bottom slopes. The dominant of coarse sand affects its ability to retain moisture. Water holding capacity was low and Soil PH was acidic (PH 5.4-5.7) in the upper, middle and bottom slopes. Organic carbon, exchangeable calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium were generally low in the upper, middle and bottom slopes. Exchangeable acid, cation exchange capacity and base saturation were also low in the upper, middle and bottom slopes. The study therefore recommends vegetation conservation and sustainable management strategies in the study area.

Title : Natural Disasters and Crime Incidence: A Case of 2012 Flooding in Benue State, Nigeria
Authors Godwin M. Kwanga, Terwase Shabu, Emily Mbanengen Adaaku
Abstract: The study explore whether natural disasters lead to a rise in crime rates and whether crime response to disasters. Areas that were affected by the 2012 flood disaster were selected as the study population. The total population of the affected local government areas is 1,497,707, affected population is 62,303 while the number of affected households is 8,900. A total of 383 heads of affected households were selected using simple random sampling technique. The data collected using questionnaire and records from security agency comprised of socio-economic characteristics of affected households and violent crime rate rise as perceived by affected communities. Also reported cases of violent crime in affected areas were collected from Benue State Police Command, Benue state. Data collected were analysed using percentages, frequency count. Likert scale method was used to measure increase in violent crime during the flood incidence in the affected areas. Using a ‘before, during and after’ approach, the study revealed that violent crime increased during 2012 flood disaster and decreased significantly after the disaster. Therefore, there is need for disaster prone areas and disaster management agents in the state to incorporate security measures in disaster preparedness, coping and recovery strategies in order to minimize security challenges ensuing from natural disaster in the area during natural disasters.
